HHLA is well positioned in the container, intermodal, logistics and real-estate sectors as well as in their intelligent interconnection:
HHLA's Altenwerder, Burchardkai and Tollerort terminals handle two-thirds of all container traffic in the Port of Hamburg. Volumes are rising steeply - with growth rate over the past five years reaching double figures. HHLA in Hamburg currently handles more containers than New York/New Jersey, the largest port on the US east coast.
HHLA combines an immense range of services in its business sector logistics. All the HHLA subsidiaries and affiliates here are among the foremost players in their respective sectors, for instance the internationally active consulting company HPC or the rapidly growing joint venture HHLA Rhenus Logistics.
Outstandingly good hinterland links are amongst Hamburg's most crucial advantages as a multimodal transport hub. HHLA does more than profit from these by ensuring that even further improvement of them through its rail operating subsidiaries and inland terminals.
Real estate in and around the Port of Hamburg has always been one of HHLA's core business sectors. This was founded 120 years ago in Speicherstadt (or Warehouse City) that even then was already a gigantic warehousing complex with state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, HHLA leases out functional office buildings, storage sheds and commercial sites.
HHLA focuses on the vertical integration of its business activities: efficient container terminals, high-performance hinterland transport systems and innovative logistics services combine to form a complete network between the international port and the end customer. The geographic focus is on Hamburg, from where all economies in Central Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic region and Eastern Europe can be reached.
